Contests

So, here are the first few contests from around the internet:
For minors- write a family story (fiction or nonfiction).  The contest description and rules can be found at www.youngvoicesfoundation.org .
For anyone- Bookrix is always doing a few contests.  Right now they have the biggest fear contest, the newbie writing contest, and a 'short short' writing contest (up to 15 words).
Good luck!

First Book Review: Keturah and Lord Death

Keturah and Lord Death was a fictional romance that captivated me and kept my attention.  I admit: it is a romance.  I absolutely despise romance unless it is well-written and has  real plot.  This book fulfilled both requirements. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it when I finished, and it gets ten out of ten stars in my book.

Bookrix's... Redemption?

I finally received help on Bookrix and was able to submit my entry, thanks to one helpful user and my older brother.  Now I'm just a bit embarrassed about it.  So has Bookrix redeemed itself?  ...I'm not sure, yet.  It certainly seems like it has potential, now, but to be honest- the things I have been reading aren't exactly worthy of being published.  I hope to read better.   Maybe if I win the contest I'll be more lenient. ;D

Anyways, I've decided to use this blog to give people a heads up on free writing contests from multiple websites.  I will also give book reviews, since that has always been something I have been interested in doing.

Confessions of a Frustrated Writer

Writer websites... sounds like a good idea, right?  Wrong, apparently.  I've tried two different websites thus far, and I am very disappointed with the both of them.  The two are figment.com and bookrix.com.  Figment, I have been disappointed with because its contests are all based on popularity.  Hello?!  Is this high school?  Only the ten entries with the most hearts are judged.  Pathetic.
Bookrix looked more promising.  Better contests, actual publication.  Wrong again, Crimson.  I've just spent the last hour trying to put my story on their stupid contest.  I published it okay, but try submitting it into the contest?  Impossible.  I went to their 'Help' section, but to no avail.  They didn't address my problem anywhere.
Am I doomed to never enter any writing contests while still a minor?  To forever be denied the chance to grow?  I don't mean to be so melodramatic, but I am frustrated and angry and a bunch of other negative emotions.  ARGH!  WHY do they do this to me?!  If anyone out there knows of any GOOD websites, I am all ears.
